Florence Pugh recently re-enacted one of Julia Roberts’ most famous romantic comedy scenes of all time. The Notting Hill recreation occurred during the press junket for her latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Thunderbolts*.
Jake Schreier, the director of Thunderbolts*, took the opportunity to recreate the scene in Notting Hill where Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) is talking with Will Thacker (Hugh Grant) about her upcoming movie. “I’m a dork and don’t do junkets very often, so I asked [Florence Pugh to] re-create Notting Hill with me on Thunderbolts* press day,” Schreier captioned the video on Instagram. “If Lewis/Sebastian/Wyatt/David hadn’t all left for the day, she would have had a better co-star.”

Daisy Ridley shares a new photo from behind the scenes of Rise of Skywalker with fans on Star Wars Day.
The original scene from Notting Hill sees Roberts’ character inviting Grant’s character to visit her at the Ritz Hotel, where he is mistaken for a reporter and taken to a press event for her new film. There, he claims to write for Horses & Hound magazine, leading to the hilarious interaction where Thacker says: “I enjoyed the movie very much. I was just wondering, did you ever consider having more horses in it?“
Schreier and Pugh hilariously recreated the scene for their Thunderbolts* promotional tour, which sees Pugh reprising her role as the MCU’s Yelena Belova. The film premiered in theaters on May 2 as the final film of the MCU’s Phase Five, and it has already been well-received by critics and grossed over $160 million.
While Thunderbolts* is far from a romantic comedy, it’s hilarious to see the creative team of the film taking a detour from more serious promotional efforts to pay homage to one of the best rom-coms of all time. At the end of the clip, both Pugh and Schreier can’t contain their laughter, with Schreier being a surprisingly good actor, able to keep a straight face while delivering his lines from the Notting Hill scene.
Thunderbolts* Tackles Important Depictions of Mental Health Challenges
One thing that critics and fans alike have praised about Thunderbolts* is its ability to mix comedy (like Pugh and Schreier’s hilarious press antics) with more serious content. The MCU has always had fun with its characters and played into its comedic elements, but Thunderbolts* takes things to a new level while also allowing its leading heroes the chance to struggle with serious topics like depression and other mental health issues.

The Russo Bros. confirm that Thunderbolts* has a special Doomsday preview in its exciting post-credits scene.
For Pugh, this was a “massive” deal that she felt was very important. “It’s a huge deal. It’s a huge deal that that theme was made with a Marvel budget, and they cared enough about it to make it the main event. And that is so important, so important for everybody right now,” she recently said. Schreier was determined to have these struggles depicted prominently in the film, adding: “These themes are not niche anymore; that we all struggle with this and that they were universal ideas.”
Thunderbolts* is now playing in theaters.
