How The Falcons Can End Up With a Former Defensive Player Of The Year

The Atlanta Falcons need pass rushers more than anything and being able to bring in a former defensive player of the year, and seven-time Pro Bowl player would be a win. T.J. Watt is asking for a big contract, meaning that this trade could take them off Kirk Cousins’ contract and help kill two birds with one stone.

Watt, 30, is still one of the best defensive players in the league and is still tied for the most sacks in a season with 22.5 back in 2021. In seasons he has been healthy he has consistently put up 10 or more sacks a season.

Watt has been a defensive beast since entering the league in 2017 and has made six all-pros and has been the league leader in sacks three times. He has also shown disgruntlement in Pittsburgh and has been posting cryptic messages on social media, hinting at him finding a new home soon.

The Falcons might not be willing to pay full price due to Watt being 30, but he has only had one non-fully healthy season in his career. This trade could very well involve multiple draft picks including firsts, and if the Pittsburgh Steelers are still looking for a quarterback, they will potentially take on Cousins contract.

This is one of those scenarios where both teams can score big or miss. Watt has shown that he has not dropped production just yet and can continue to be an All-Pro in Atlanta if he ends up being traded there.
