NEW YORK — Weather could be a problem for the Yankees and Rays on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
In fact, the forecast in the Bronx features wet and rainy conditions over each of the next three days. So even if the Yankees get through Sunday’s series finale with Tampa Bay without any issues, they could deal with delays and even a postponement during the Padres series that begins on Monday night.
Before jumping ahead to Monday, here’s the forecast on Sunday
According to Weather.com, showers could start in the area at around 12:00 p.m. As of 10:30 a.m., there’s a 48 percent chance of rain around noon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. At 2:00 p.m., there’s a 54 percent chance of showers.
It clears up briefly from there, and then the worst of the weather will seemingly arrive. Rain is expected to fall steadily from 5 p.m. through the rest of the night all the way through Tuesday.
In other words, there may be enough of a window for the Yankees and Rays to get their game in. With a bigger chance of rain in the evening and no chance for a makeup game until much later in the season — the Rays come back to Yankee Stadium for a four-game series in late July — it makes more sense for these teams to do everything they can to get this game in without any delays.
Again, Monday and Tuesday are both up in the air with San Diego in town. Weather.com’s forecast calls for an 85 percent chance of rain on Monday and Tuesday could be even worse with thunderstorms and a 69 percent chance.
