TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A 2-year-old Topeka boy has been located safely in Illinois, as the suspect is in custody.
A 2-year-old boy has gone missing as of Friday, July 18.
The Topeka Police Department provided the following information to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) on July 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
Zabe Mendez was forcibly taken from his mother by an unknown suspect on Friday in the 500 block of NE Wabash in Topeka.

According to the release, Zabe is in imminent danger.
Mendez is 2 feet 5 inches, weighs 40 lbs, and his hair and eye color are brown.
His mother’s 2008 white Lexus IS 250 4-door vehicle with Kansas Tag number 4003AHF is also missing.

According to the KBI Facebook page, the suspect’s name is Christopher Barnshaw.
