CINCINNATI — We are going to see a lot more of Joe Burrow playing the preseason over the next month than we are used to. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor hammered that home throughout the summer and noted Burrow will have zero restrictions on his training camp reps for the first time in a few seasons.
Burrow’s only taken nine career dropbacks in the preseason, and most of those have been quick passes.
“The only thing last year with him was there were days where we limited him, where he did not throw. And so right now, there’s none of that,” Taylor said on Wednesday. “He’ll participate every single day like he normally would, fully healthy, and then anticipate playing him more in preseason games than we ever have.”
Cincinnati’s top goal is to win the Super Bowl, and getting that massively important No. 1 conference seed is the most likely path to get there. It’s very difficult to have the AFC’s best record with the slow starts Cincinnati’s posted under Taylor.
Playing Burrow more over the next month could be a spur to turning around Taylor’s 7-14-1 September record.
