Legendary PGA Tour announcer Ian Baker-Finch is retiring from broadcasting golf

Golfing legend Ian Baker-Finch is retiring from broadcasting in less than two weeks, CBS Sports recently announced.

Baker-Finch was a professional golfer whose accomplishments included winning The Open Championship prior to beginning his broadcasting career.

He turned pro in 1979 and went on to win 17 tournaments worldwide.

Baker-Finch has worked as a golf analyst for the past 30 years, with 19 of those coming with CBS.

“Golf has been an enormous part of my life. I was fortunate to compete against the best players in the game and more recently work with the very best in television,” Ian Baker-Finch said as part of his statement.

“As I step away, I carry with me immense gratitude and pride for the moments we’ve shared on and off the course. Here’s to new adventures and the enduring love of golf.”

Baker-Finch is calling the 3M Open this week, before finishing up his broadcasting career at next week’s Wyndham Championship — CBS Sports’ final tournament of the network’s 2025 season.

David Berson, who is the President and CEO of CBS Sports, released a statement about what Baker-Finch has meant to the network and the game of golf.

“As a major champion during his successful playing career and over three decades in broadcasting, Ian Baker-Finch distinguished himself as one of the most respected and trusted voices in golf,” Berson said. “As he announces his retirement, we’ll miss his passion, insight, warmth and steady presence on the air but know he will continue to make his mark across the world of golf.

“Finchy will always be part of the CBS Sports family, and we thank him for being an incredible teammate and friend, and for his immeasurable contributions the past 19 years at CBS.”
