Former Syracuse, WNBA basketball star Brittney Sykes is traded (report)

Former Syracuse women’s basketball star Brittney Sykes is being traded from the Washington Mystics to the Seattle Storm, ESPN’s Alex Philippou reported Tuesday, citing sources.

Sykes, one of the all-time SU greats, was a late add to the WNBA All-Star team after injuries to Caitlin Clark and Satou Sabally. It was her first appearance in the All-Star game. She is having the best season in her WNBA career.

Sykes, 31, was in her third season with the Mystics. The 5-foot-9 guard, known for her defensive tenacity, was Washington’s leading scorer this season. She’s averaging 15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. The assists and steals are also Washington team highs.

She is leaving a Mystics team currently ninth in the WNBA standings and heading to sixth-place Seattle.

Sykes survived two knee surgeries during her career at SU and still thrived.

She scored 1,846 career points and made 137 starts with the Orange.
