‘Scream’ Actress Shares the Biggest ‘Mistake’ She Thinks the Movie Franchise Made originally appeared on Parade.
Scream 4 alum Alison Brie is giving an honest review of the film franchise’s latest installment.
During a recent podcast appearance alongside husband Dave Franco, the 42-year-old actress looked back on her role in the fourth film of the iconic slasher film franchise—and she also revealed what she believes the newer films are getting wrong.
Explaining her “problem with the current era of the Scream franchise,” on a new episode of the Shut Up Evan podcast, Brie claimed “too many people live” in the newer movies.
“The core four needs to die!” she declared, while insisting, “We should be down to two of the core four by Scream 7.“
However, Brie also thinks that one character in particular should have never been killed off.
The GLOW actress then claimed that killing off David Arquette‘s character, Dewey Riley, was a big “mistake.”
She insisted that they needed to “keep the main three,” referring to Dewey, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). The three OG characters appeared in all of the first four movies, and have each reprised their roles for various installments of the new revived franchise.
But as for her own role in 2011’s Scream 4, Brie’s character wasn’t so lucky. Portraying Sidney’s assistant Rebecca Walters, Brie’s character doesn’t make it until the end of the movie before she is killed in a parking garage.
“I feel like with new Scream rules, even though she dies brutally, we could bring her back,” Franco, 40, quipped during the interview, to which his wife replied, “Yeah, where’s my role in Scream 7?”
Scream 7 is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 27, 2026.
