MARYLAND(7News) — Atlanta-based rapper Jeezy recently applauded a rideshare driver who drove over 10 hours to help the artist reach his Baltimore, Maryland, concert just moments before it was set to begin, the artist said in a recent Instagram post.
Hours before Jeezy was set to take the stage at The Lyric Baltimore on August 1 for his concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Thug Motivation 101 album, the rapper said he learned all flights were canceled to Baltimore and D.C.
It only got worse shortly after hitting the road for the first time, when he said an object on the highway punctured the gas tank and forced them into a small gas station in South Carolina.
That’s when he met Tanner, the Uber driver who was originally supposed to take Jeezy and his team to an airport car rental location.
“When the Uber driver arrived, he quickly loaded our bags and sped off,” Jeezy wrote on Instagram. “Eight minutes into the ride, I turned to him and said, ‘Hey, we need to go to Baltimore.’ I asked how much he’d charge to take us there, and after a moment of consideration, he replied, ‘Let me think about it.’ I assured him that whatever it was, he’d have it.”
Tanner, Jeezy said, then took them on the 10-hour journey to Baltimore, arriving just 10 minutes before he was supposed to take the stage. Doors opened at around 7 p.m.
As a reward, Tanner was given a Snowman Tee and given the MVP treatment at Jeezy’s concert.
“I told him he made a lot of people happy tonight!” Jeezy wrote. “Shout out to the real MVP, my Uber driver Tanner! Not all heroes wear capes!”
Jeezy’s concert tour continues until September 12, with stops in Richmond, Virginia, on August 15, and in D.C. on August 31, according to his tour website.
