Julia Ormond is fighting back after Creative Artists Agency (CAA) cofounder Michael Ovitz failed to appear for a deposition that was scheduled for June 12 in connection with her ongoing lawsuit against the talent agency.
While the Sabrina star’s legal team filed the deposition notice on May 29, neither Ovitz nor his lawyers responded, according to Variety.
Now, she’s reportedly filed court documents in an additional attempt to get him to testify. Along with Ovitz’s deposition, Ormond’s legal team is also requesting his correspondence with disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.
The Legends of the Fall actress, 60, initially sued Miramax, Weinstein, Disney and CAA in 2023. She alleges that she was sexually assaulted by Weinstein in 1995 and that CAA agents, Kevin Huvane and Bryan Lourd, did not warn her ahead of time of his problematic history. She further claimed that CAA agents tried to convince her not to report the alleged assault.
However, CAA alleged that Ormond had been aware of the filmmaker’s history and has denied all allegations from Ormond.
Both Disney and Miramax have since been dismissed from the case after reaching a settlement.
Weinstein has been at the center of decades of sexual harassment and assault allegations. He was officially axed from The Weinstein Company in 2017 after “new information about misconduct” came to light at the time, according to BBC.
That same year, Weinstein’s then-wife, Georgina Chapman, left him.
In 2020, he was officially convicted of sexual assault in the state of New York. However, the ruling was overturned roughly four years later due to mistakes that were made during the trial process.
“We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes because that testimony served no material non-propensity purpose,” the court said in a statement at the time.
His retrial began in April, and he was later found guilty on one count of committing a criminal sexual act. He was acquitted one count of sexual assault.
