Adam Sandler and Jackie Sandler have chemistry — both on and offscreen.
The comedian and actor, 58, revealed at the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere that even though he and his wife, 50, don’t play love interests in his new film, they still had sparks flowing between them whenever they were on set.
“My wife and I have a nice, when we make eye contact, we lock in, so we use that when we’re acting,” Sandler tells PEOPLE.
“Sometimes it looks a little weird that we’re falling in love and it doesn’t make sense to our characters,” he adds. “But we do have a nice attraction for each other…”

The pair, who met on the set of Big Daddy in 1999 and wed in 2003, are no strangers to PDA on the red carpet. Earlier this year, the two put on a loved-up display while attending the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary musical event and were spotted sharing a kiss before a pickup basketball game.
That genuine connection also carried over to his real-life role as a dad, with his and Jackie’s daughters, Sadie, 19, and Sunny, 16, joining him on set. He tells PEOPLE at the premiere that his “heart feels good” to have them by his side.
“You’re pulling for ’em while you’re working with them,” Sandler shares. “… My kids couldn’t be prouder of whatever they’re working and going after whatever they want. I’m just always pulling for them, like every parent.”
The Just Go With It star previously told E! News that he felt “relieved” to see his daughters’ hard work pay off in Happy Gilmore 2 — and proud to watch them knock their performances out of the park.
“Oh my god, you’re just relieved. Once they do it well, nothing feels better as a parent,” he said. “It must be like when you’re the parents of a baseball player and you’re at the game and they get a hit. You just go, ‘Thank god.’ It’s just so much relief.”
The feeling is mutual as his daughters also watch out for him. Last August, Sandler told PEOPLE at the New York City premiere of his Netflix comedy special Adam Sandler: Love You that his daughters Sadie and Sunny encourage him to take his health seriously.

“They always look out for me and my health just like I used to with my dad,” Sandler said at the time. “You go, ‘Man, I want this guy around,’ so I used to scream at my dad to quit smoking.’”
“And my kids scream at me to just calm down and try to eat a little more like a normal person,” he added.
Happy Gilmore 2 will be released on Netflix on July 25.
