After being one of the most-hyped prospects in the 2025 NFL draft, Ashton Jeanty is doing a good job of living up to that billing in training camp with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Jeanty has been “turning heads in a major way” throughout the offseason.
Jeanty entered the draft coming off one of the best seasons for a running back in college football history. The 21-year-old led the nation in rushing attempts (374), rushing yards (2,601) and finished second in total touchdowns (30) for Boise State.
In addition to his eye-popping stats, Jeanty’s scouting reports were just as glowing. B/R’s NFL scouting department praised his “bowling ball-esque frame and ELITE contact balance” that would allow him to fit in either wide zone or pin-pull gap schemes.
The Raiders bet big on Jeanty being a focal point of their offense by making him the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft. Head coach Pete Carroll was extremely impressed with his new running back coming out of mandatory minicamp in June:
“Ashton looks every bit what we had hoped he would look like. He caught the ball really well, he understood stuff, took everything really seriously, gave terrific effort throughout. And we made a big deal to him—everybody’s watching you, you know —and he embraced the thought of it. So, it’s going to be exciting to see what happens.”
Hope is high for the Raiders entering the season after the additions of Jeanty and quarterback Geno Smith to play alongside 2024 breakout star Brock Bowers.
Carroll’s hiring has also injected life into the franchise coming off three consecutive losing seasons, including a 4-13 record in 2024.
If Jeanty lives up to his billing as arguably the most exciting running back prospect to enter the NFL since Adrian Peterson, the Raiders have enough offensive talent to be a potential playoff contender in a deep AFC.
