Our first alert weather day will expire late this evening as storms fade and press out of our viewing aa.
The pattern remains unsettled Saturday with a stalled front nearby and a humid, unstable air mass in place, primed for heavy rainfall. Some isolated storms could dump 1 to 3 inches of rain in less than an hour, with localized amounts exceeding 3 inches. With ground already saturated from previous rainfall, flash flooding remains a concern not only this evening, but also on Saturday.
Typical July Steam To Stick Around This Weekend
High temperatures will run close to average, with 80s in the mountains and lower 90s elsewhere. It won’t cool off much at night either with overnight lows staying muggy, hovering about 10°F warmer than normal, keeping that sticky, uncomfortable feeling around the clock.
Looking Ahead: A Brief Break Early Next Week?
There is continued hope for a brief period of drier weather next week. A backdoor cold front may slide southward Sunday night into Monday, bringing another round of showers and storms, but also potentially ushering in slightly cooler and drier air by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Should this wedge of cooler air hold, Tuesday through Thursday could offer the region a subtle reprieve from the humidity and storms. There is a medium amount of confidence of that solution at this point.
