Flames tore through a roof deck at a building along Front Street in Philadelphia’s Old City section in an incident that kept fire crews working early Monday morning.
According to officials, crews responded at about 6 a.m. to a fire at a roof deck at a building near the intersection of North Front and Callowhill streets.
During the morning, a neighbor — who identified himself as “Tony Soprano” — told an NBC10 crew that he was awoken by a neighbor who believed his home was on fire when the flames initially erupted.
“There’s a penthouse unit on the fifth floor. It’s more than just a deck, it’s actually a room,” he said. “That entire structure was engulphed in flames and black smoke was pouring out.”
He claimed that he saw a woman be brought out of the building on a stretcher, and noted she got off the stretcher once she was taken out of the building.
“I think she had smoke inhalation,” the neighbor said.
He said that flames seemed to be under control shortly after crews arrived at the scene.
Officials have not yet said what may have started the fire or if anyone was injured in this incident.
