The Washington Mystics had three first-round selections in the 2025 WNBA Draft: Notre Dame’s Sonia Citron (No. 3), USC’s Kiki Iriafen (No. 4), and Kentucky’s Georgia Amoore (No. 6).
It’s been just over two weeks since those players heard their names called, and they’ve already started working with their new team, as the Mystics opened training camp on Sunday. However, just a few days before their first WNBA preseason game, Amoore tore her ACL during Tuesday’s practice.

The Mystics shared the news in a press release on Wednesday.
“The Washington Mystics announced that guard Georgia Amoore suffered a right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Tuesday’s practice, ” the press release read. “Amoore and the team will examine treatment and rehabilitation options and provide an update as appropriate.”

Amoore is a 5-foot-6 point guard who played four seasons at Virginia Tech before transferring to Kentucky for her final year. This past season in Lexington, the 24-year-old Australian averaged 19.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game.
This is a tough blow for not only Amoore but also the Mystics, who are coming off a 14-26 season last year. General manager Jamila Wideman recently admitted that while they may not be contenders this season, what they are “excited about is to build.”

It was a real possibility that all three of their rookie first-round picks could have started for the team season, but that is now out of the question. ACL injuries typically require six to nine months for full recovery.
