A power outage in Durham impacting hundreds of customers on Wednesday morning has knocked out power at a busy intersection.
At 6:30 a.m., Duke Energy’s outage map showed 385 customers without power in the areas of N.C. Highway 55, South Alston Avenue, South Briggs Avenue and Riddle Road. The outage had improved from nearly 1,000 customers earlier in the morning.
Traffic lights weren’t working at the N.C. 55 and Riddle Road intersection, creating a dangerous situation for cars speeding across the road without stopping. Other intersections in the area may be without power as well.
Drivers should treat a four-way intersection without functioning traffic lights like a four-way stop.
A Circle K gas station in the area was also without power.
Utility crews told WRAL News the damage was due to a broken power pole. Duke Energy’s website listed an estimated restoration time of 9:45 a.m.
