TOPEKA, Kan. (KCTV) – Law enforcement officials have found a 2-year-old boy safe in Illinois after he was forcibly taken from his mother in Kansas.
An Amber Alert was issued late Tuesday morning, July 22, as investigators searched for a 2-year-old boy who was forcibly taken from his mother in Topeka.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said that just after 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, the Topeka Police Department was notified of a possible child abduction.
Investigators said they found that on Friday, Zabe Mendez, 2, was taken from his mother in the area of NE Wabash and NE State St., near the Oakland neighborhood, by an unknown suspect. He is believed to be in imminent danger.
Mendez has been described as a 2-year-old boy who stands at 2-foot-5 and weighs about 40 lb. He has brown hair and brown eyes. It is unknown what clothing he was wearing when he was taken.
Law enforcement officials noted that Mendez’s mother’s white Lincoln 4-door vehicle was also reported missing. However, the suspect vehicle is believed to be a white 4-door Lexus IS 250.

Around 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, investigators said Mendez was found safe in Matoon, Illinois. He is currently in the custody of local authorities.
