KTLA is under fire after the Nexstar owned station posted a racist slur to its social media accounts and later blamed it on a “technical error.”

Below is what the station posted. The screen grab is courtesy of our good friend at FTVLive who first told the story.

The Los Angeles station is meeting with the National Association of Black Journalists Board of Directors today to talk about the incident.

“KTLA experienced a technical error while adding language filters to our social media accounts, resulting in an offensive word being accidentally shared,” the station posted after deleting the original post. “We are appalled and apologize that this occurred.”

We have asked Nexstar about it and will update when we hear back.

“As NABJ celebrates its 50th anniversary later this year, it is disheartening to see that racism-whether accidental or intentional-continues to surface in our industry,” the NABJ wrote. “We remain committed to holding news organizations accountable and demand that those who engage with NABJ, and those who may not, demonstrate a genuine commitment to journalistic principles. Fairness and accuracy cannot be achieved without respect for diversity, equity and inclusion.”
