Milwaukee Brewers vs Cincinnati Reds – August 16, 2025

Last night saw the Reds come up short after blowing a 7-run lead in one of the wilder games at Great American Ball Park in a long time as the Brewers picked up their 13th win in a row. Today Cincinnati and Milwaukee get back on the field for game two of their 3-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40pm ET.

Starting Lineups

Starting Pitchers

Zack Littell

After a strong debut with the Reds against the Cubs on August 5th, Zack Littell struggled against Pittsburgh in a 14-8 win last week. Today will be his home debut after his first two starts came on the road, though four starts ago he did pitch at Great American Ball Park – he was just wearing a Tampa Bay Rays jersey that day.

The splits against Littell in 2025 aren’t that big. Right-handed hitters are hitting a little bit better across the board, but their advantage over lefties is hard to discern unless you take a really close look at things.

Quinn Priester

It’s been a good season for Quinn Priester, who has made 17 starts and five relief appearances this year. At 11-2 he has the best winning percentage in the National League. The last time out he struggled against the Mets, giving up six runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings and serving up two home runs.

The splits against Priester this year aren’t large, but right-handed hitters are going a bit better when it comes to hitting. They carry a 27 point advantage in batting average and a 51 point advantage in slugging. Lefties are walking a bit more, though, and has a tiny advantage in on-base percentage as a result of that.

News and Notes

Depressing stat of the day

Joel Luckhaupt and Jay Wrigley were able to confirm that last night the Cincinnati Reds were the first team since at least 1911 to score 7+ runs in an inning and also have more than 20 batters in a row retired in the same game. As Joel said – yay?

Following in the footsteps….

The Dominican Summer League Reds played a doubleheader earlier today. The first game was one in which they led 11-0 after the top of the 7th inning. They would then give up 12 runs over the next three, including seven in the bottom of the 9th to lose the game.
