While many of the players on offense are already familiar with each other, they are not with the most important position in the sport – at least, on a personal basis. Most have been watching Wilson and Winston on TV for years.
“I’m super excited to work with him,” said second-year tight end Theo Johnson, who was just about to turn 13 when Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII. “You know, the little bit that we’ve worked together, I think he’s going to be not only great for our offense, but for our team. … From the very first interaction with him, you could tell the guy knows a lot of ball, and the biggest takeaway for me was just his passion. He loves football and every aspect of the game, which is infectious and something that he’s going to infect in our locker room just his love and his passion for the game.”
The quarterbacks aren’t the only new faces. The Giants kicked off free agency with the signings of cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevón Holland, who forced three fumbles in a game against Wilson’s Broncos in 2023.
The two joked about that in the locker room this morning.
“He’s a talented guy, Holland,” Wilson said. “I think he’s made a lot of plays. We’re excited to have him on the team.”
Holland’s mother is a “big Seahawks fan” and his father spent time with the 49ers, so the Bay area native knows all about Wilson. And his new backfield partner knows a lot about Holland.
“It’s funny, I’ve actually been watching Jevón for a while, since I was in college,” second-year safety Tyler Nubin said, “because I feel like me and him, we kind of have similar play styles, similar body types. He’s a longer, bigger guy. I’ve always been a fan of his game. So, I was excited to hear that he was going to being part of our team, for sure.”
The coaches feel the same way.
“It’s always better when the players are in the building,” Daboll said.
