Manager Dan Wilson told reporters of the team’s plans after Tuesday’s 6-1 loss to the Athletics. The Mariners officially announced the moves Wednesday afternoon.

Locklear is making his return to the major leagues after a two-month power surge and scorching month of July.

In 20 games in July with Tacoma, the 24-year-old Locklear slashed .425/.495/.825 with a whopping 1.320 OPS, nine home runs and 33 RBIs. He leads the PCL in each of those categories for the month and Monday was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for July 21-27.

During his run to player of the week honors, Locklear had a stretch where he went 9 for 9 and reached base in 11 straight appearances. He went 11 for 23 with five home runs on the week.

Locklear has also hit 16 of his 19 home runs since the start of June.

On the season, Locklear has a .316/.401/.543 slash line with 25 doubles, 19 home runs, 81 RBIs, 18 stolen bases, 47 walks and 94 strikeouts in 97 games.

The Virginia Commonwealth University product appeared in 16 games after making his major league debut with Seattle last season. He hit .145 with a .535 OPS and two home runs.

Locklear, a second-round pick in 2022, is the ninth-ranked prospect in the Mariners’ farm system, per MLB Pipeline. Last year he made appearances on Pipeline and Baseball America’s top 100 prospects lists.

The news on Raley comes after he was out of the starting lineup for the past six games. He last appeared in a game as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning on July 24.

This is the second trip to the injured list this year for Raley, who missed nearly two months with a right oblique strain.

The 30-year-old Raley was one of Seattle’s most productive hitters in 2024, but he hasn’t put up the same numbers in limited time this year. In 49 games, he is slashing .220/.343/.348 with six doubles, four home runs and 18 RBIs.
