Storm damage across the Tennessee Valley

ALABAMA (WHNT) — The Weather Authority has been tracking storms across the Tennessee Valley on Tuesday.

The main timeframe for severe storms was from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. We had an enhanced risk of (3/5) risk of severe storms across the Tennessee Valley.

Our area had been placed in an area between the cold and warm fronts known as the ‘warm sector.’ This sector had all the ingredients present to support the widespread coverage of strong to severe storms.

Storms that have already moved across the Tennessee Valley have left behind damage and power outages. You can see the power outages here:

  • Athens Utilities has reported that 3,786 are still without power as of 8:28 a.m. on Wednesday. “Crews continue work on Lucas Ferry & Sanderfer & scattered outages throughout county,” the City of Athens said.

  • Huntsville Utilities has reported that over 4,300 customers are without power as of 7:33 a.m. on Wednesday.

“There are 19 poles down, with three more damaged/leaning. There are 40 lines down, four more hanging low, and 20 tree related issues. Crews from Decatur Utilities are on their way to assist, and contract crews from Gridco are in the field as well. Report either of these issues (as well as outages) to 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448),” HU said.

  • Florence Utilities has reported over 250 customers are without power as of 7:34 a.m. on Wednesday, per the outage map.
