System Of A Down‘s 6x multi-platinum breakout album “Toxicity” up and disappeared from digital service provider Spotify this week, much to the chagrin of fans of the Armenian-American nü-metal stars. As of press time, the album remains unavailable on Spotify, but is available on other leading streaming platforms, including Apple Music and YouTube Music
Several key tracks from the landmark record are still playable Spotify, albeit via associated EPs and compilations, rather than being attributed to the ‘Toxicity” record itself. Thus far, the band themselves have yet to address the matter.
However, with the various moving parts of involved with albums, especially older major label outings, it’s not entirely uncommon for an album to temporarily disappear from a streaming service as rights/distribution, etc. changes or even disputes are sorted out. Notably, various tracks from the band’s catalog have been receiving new uploads via the band’s official digital channels lately (see “Marmalade“, “P.L.U.C.K.” and more on YouTube,) seemingly indicating such a situation has been in play.
Given the amount of income “Toxicity” still generates for the band however (the album’s title track was the latest to join the Spotify 1 billion plays club this past fall,) one would expect the SOAD camp to have these issued smoothed out asap.
