The 2025 Cincinnati Open is underway, and the tournament has already seen some big results in the early rounds.

Tennis legend Venus Williams made her return to Cincinnati as a wildcard, but was defeated by a defiant Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in straight sets.

On the men’s side, former champion Daniil Medvedev crashed out in his opening match against Adam Walton, as the Russian’s poor form continues.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner remain the favourites to go all the way at the ATP event, but one teenage star, who picked up a hard-court Masters title earlier in 2025, may be going under the radar.

The teenage star at the Cincinnati Open with incredible record

With his triumph over American home hope Ethan Quinn in the first round, 19-year-old Jakub Mensik now ranks seventh all-time for most Masters 1000 wins as a teenager.

He has 21 wins at the level, more than the likes of Pete Sampras and Lleyton Hewitt, and is tied with three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray.

Should Mensik go all the way in Cincinnati, he can add five more wins to his tally, which would result in him surpassing Andy Roddick as fourth on the list.

As the Czech star will turn 20 on the first of September, he will be unable to catch Andrei Medvedev in third place.

Mensik kicked off his Masters series at the Indian Wells Open in March, where he reached the second round.

In the second leg of the ‘sunshine double’, he announced himself to the tennis world, earning victories over top ten players Jack Draper and Taylor Fritz to advance to the Miami Open final.

There, he would go on to defeat Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 7-6, 7-6 to clinch the first title of his career.

Since then, Mensik has made the quarterfinals at the Madrid Open and the fourth round at the Italian Open, before beginning his North American hard-court swing with a third-round finish in Toronto.
