Portland’s weather forecast may not look like a typical early August forecast, but with temps on the cool side and no extreme heat in sight, most residents can enjoy the cool -Monday through at least Thursday.
The National Weather Service says an upper-level trough centered over southeastern Alaska and surface high pressure well offshore in the northeastern Pacific combine to bring continued onshore flow and below-normal temperatures through much of the week.
Portland will see a good covering of marine clouds early Monday. Some clearing is expected by the afternoon, but temperatures may struggle to reach 75 degrees, which is about 10 degrees below average. However, if the clouds clear out earlier, temps could warm into the low 80s.
Portland will see another round of low clouds Tuesday, but by the afternoon skies should clear to partly sunny. The high will reach about 81.
A new system, tracking north of Vancouver Island, will bring a front to the coast overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. This is the metro area’s best chance of widespread rain in about three weeks, according to the weather service.
Portland has a 40% chance of showers Wednesday through the morning hours. Skies will stay mostly cloudy, and the high temp should reach about 78 degrees.
Shower chances linger into Thursday but should be limited and short-lived. Skies will begin to clear out by the afternoon. Thursday’s high will reach near 79 degrees.
If you’re excited about this cooler and possibly damp week, enjoy it while you can. Current long range forecasts are showing the return of high pressure into the weekend and temperatures heating back up well into the 90s by Sunday.
