If you’re looking for a tropical getaway for Labor Day weekend, a 2025 safety ranking has listed the best options to avoid crime and hurricanes.
According to the 2025 Caribbean Island Safety Index, created by Always All Inclusive, the island of Aruba is the safest Caribbean travel option this summer.
“This island is a dream for worry-free travel, even during hurricane season,” the ranking reads.
“It’s especially great for families and solo travelers.”
To create its ranking, Always All Inclusive assigned each island a 0–10 score across four categories:
- U.S. State Department travel advisories
- Violent crime rates (especially tourist-related)
- Hurricane frequency and resilience
- Emergency healthcare access
The site then weighted each category based on what travelers care about most.
The weights for each category were as follows:
- 30% Travel Advisories
- 30% Crime & Tourist Safety
- 25% Healthcare Access
- 15% Hurricane Risk
Aruba, with a composite score of 9.3, took the number one spot due to a lack of hurricanes in recent history, a homicide rate of less than 2 per 100,000 people, a “strong healthcare system with Dutch standards,” and its Level 1 advisory (exercise normal precautions) from the U.S. State Department, according to the site.
Barbados (9.2) and Grenada (9.0) were ranked second and third, respectively, due to stable governments and low crime, minimal hurricane activity, and trusted healthcare systems, the site says.
The remainder of the top ten were as follows:
3. Curaçao (tied with Grenada) — Score: 9.0
5. Antigua & Barbuda — Score: 8.1
6. Puerto Rico — Score: 7.6
7. Dominican Republic — Score: 7.0
8. Saint Lucia — Score: 6.8
9. The Bahamas — Score: 6.5
10. Jamaica — Score: 5.5
Caribbean islands that ranked lower on the list, such as the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Haiti currently have U.S. travel advisories citing high crime, civil unrest and limited health care in those areas.
