The LA Dodgers made a statement Saturday night, shutting out the Padres 6-0 to reclaim the NL West lead and set up for a series sweep in Los Angeles.
Blake Snell fired six scoreless innings against his former team, but the real surprise came in the seventh. Recalled from the minors on Monday, Edgardo Henriquez quietly made Dodgers history from the bullpen in his 19 pitches.
Edgardo Henriquez Enters Dodgers’ Record Books With Crazy Radar Stat
The Dodgers brought back Henriquez from Triple-A after right-hander Lou Trivino was designated for assignment. The 23-year-old didn’t waste time making his presence felt.
After replacing Snell in the seventh inning, he immediately lit up the radar gun. He got Xander Bogaerts to roll over on a 100 mph sinker before giving up an infield hit to Ramón Laureano. From there, the rookie locked in, striking out Jake Cronenworth on a 101 mph fastball.
Then came the big 103.3 mph fastball, freezing Ryan O’Hearn for the final out of the seventh. According to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya, that’s the hardest pitch ever thrown by a Dodger in the Statcast era (since 2015).

He continued in the eighth and kept pumping triple-digits, hitting 102 mph multiple times. After retiring José Fermín on a comebacker, Henriquez battled Fernando Tatís Jr. through an eight-pitch at-bat before the Padres slugger was allowed to walk, which also ended Henriquez’s night on the mound.
He worked 1 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two on the night. Henriquez kept his ERA spotless on the night and through 3 2/3 innings since returning in August.
This excited Dodgers fans after missing out on high-profile relievers at the trade deadline, including flamethrower Mason Miller, who signed with the Padres. It was a reminder that the Dodgers might not need to trade top prospects at all: Why chase Miller when one of their own homegrown arms is firing 103 mph and rewriting franchise history.
Edgardo Henriquez Dominates Dodgers’ Hardest Pitches List
On Saturday, Henriquez threw 12 pitches over 100 mph, including six over 102 mph.
That is the hardest-thrown pitch by a Dodger in the Statcast era.
That was Henriquez’s ninth career MLB inning. He already has six of the 10 hardest-thrown pitches by a Dodger since 2015. https://t.co/rR8OmQvuHw https://t.co/chkOvuhuU7
