WATCH: FSU softball’s postgame after loss to Texas Tech in NCAA siper regional
FSU softball struggled against Texas Tech in game one of the NCAA super regional. Here’s what Lonni Alameda, Michaela Edenfield, and Ashtyn Danley said afterward.
(Editor’s note: Here’s how Florida State softball’s season ended with a loss to Texas Tech on Friday in the NCAA Super Regional.)
It is day two of the NCAA super regional, and No. 5 Florida State softball is once again in a must-win situation if it wants to continue on its road to the Women’s College World Series.
FSU returns to the Seminole Softball Complex on Friday to take on No. 12 Texas Tech. On Thursday night, Texas Tech captured its first super regional win over the Seminoles after shutting them out, 3-0.
The Seminoles were only allowed two hits that game against the Red Raiders’ top pitcher NiJaree Canady. FSU must beat Texas Tech to extend the super regional to Saturday in a winner-take-all game.
FSU softball vs. Texas Tech in NCAA tournament
FSU 6 TX Tech 2: Texas Tech is probably the fastest team FSU has had to deal with defensively, which led to the Seminoles’ struggles at the plate. The game could be decided by whether or not we see Canady again in the circle.
I guess they give her a break, but she could probably go another seven innings by the way she has been performing. One thing to credit about the Seminoles all year is that they always bounce back whenever they take a loss, and this could be the case on Friday.
I’m not counting out the Seminoles yet, and I trust Lonni Alameda to make the necessary adjustments in game two.
The Seminoles finally found a spark in the top seven. Following a walk by Hallie Wacaser and a double by Michaela Edenfield, the Seminoles scored their first run on a sacrifice by Shelby McKenzie. FSU has two outs with Jaysoni Beachum at the plate.
FSU recorded its fourth error of the day, resulting in an unearned run for Texas Tech. The error was on second base after a single by Demi Elder.
Makayla Garcia ran into Isa Torres, which led to Alana Johnson scoring an unearned run. Lonni Alameda challenged the ruling for obstruction, but it was upheld.
FSU finally had a spark in the top fifth after Hallie Wacaser hit a double to put the Seminoles in scoring position for the first time. Then she advanced to third following a wild pitch by NiJaree Canady.
On back-to-back full counts, Jaysoni Beachum struck out, and Amaya Ross got out on a fly ball to left field, ending the inning. It was as close as it got for FSU to tie up the game.
Lonni Alameda goes to her bullpen with one runner on second base. Freshman pitcher makes her first appearance in super regional. With two outs, Francik struck out Alana Johnson to end the inning. It remains 1-0 entering the fourth inning.
Three innings in, the Seminoles are struggling at-bat. Most hits were fly-balls and pop-ups. Texas Tech continues to stay on top of the batters. The Seminoles only have one hit so far and still trail 1-0.
It’s almost deja vu for FSU softball. But this time, Texas Tech drew first blood in the bottom of the first. With two runners on base, the Red Raiders scored their run of the day on a sac-fly by Alana Johnson, sending Mihyia Davis home for a run score. That was the only score in the inning for Texas Tech
