A new $1,702 stimulus check is set to reach the pockets of some Americans in the coming days, but it’s probably not you.
Some viral news stories are reporting a hefty stimulus check from the government. One headline reads: New stimulus checks 100% confirmed ― +$1,700 for one group of citizens.
The catch is: you must live in Alaska.
As part of Alaska’s permanent dividend fund, residents of the state are eligible for the payment stemming from the state’s oil revenue, according to the Alaska Department of Revenue.
The payment schedule is the following:

2024 (and prior year) dividend applications that are in “Eligible-Not Paid” status on August 13, 2025, will be distributed on August 21, 2025.

2024 (and prior year) dividend applications that are in “Eligible-Not Paid” status on September 3, 2025, will be distributed on September 11, 2025.

2025 (and prior year) dividend applications that are in “Eligible-Not Paid” status on September 18, 2025, will be distributed on October 2, 2025.

2025 (and prior year) dividend applications that are in “Eligible-Not Paid” status on October 13, 2025, will be distributed on October 23, 2025.
In order to be eligible, according to the Alaska Department of Revenue, you must meet the following criteria:

A resident of Alaska during all of calendar year 2024.

Intend to live in Alaska permanently.

Not have claimed residency in any other state or country since December 31, 2023.

Be physically present in Alaska for 72 consecutive hours at some point during 2023 or 2024.
If you have been convicted of a crime or incarcerated at any point in 2024, you are not eligible for the stimulus check, according to the Alaska Department of Revenue.
